Transitioning to an alternative school
A student's transition to an alternative school can be a challenging one to navigate for both the student and their family. The RYS staff strives to provide informative resources and ongoing supports to make the process as comfortable as possible.

Enrollment
Richard Yoakley School serves students in grades 7 through 12 who have been formally referred to its temporary alternative program by the KCS discipline team or another stage agency.
Students who attend RYS are remanded to the campus for a period of 45 - 180 days.
Enrollment at RYS is not open to the general KCS student population and transfers are not accepted.
Daily Schedule
At Yoakley, the school day begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m. on regular school days.
Students must attend for at least 3.5 hours to be counted present for the day.
Student Supports
The entire staff of Richard Yoakley School is committed to establishing an environment in which children feel safe, secure, and supported so they can maximize their opportunities to learn and achieve. The school has a trained counselor and social worker on staff as well as a restorative behavior support team to model and facilitate appropriate decision-making.
Library / Media Center
The RYS Library is supported by our librarian, Mr. Trent McLees. Students are encouraged to visit the library to further support their academic and post-secondary goals or to expand their personal interests.
